...a tribute to becoming a doctor.
Some days...
...I wish I were a computer programmer and not a doctor.

Today is one of them, and if I tell you why I'll be even later.

I hope to hear it when you have the time.

Software engineering is much lower stress, I'm sure, but I have to say the sense of accomplishment isn't quite the same...

Yah the blue screen of death is frustrating when your a programmer, but when the equivilant happenns with a patient it's a lot more stressfull.
I hope this finds you feeling better.

(nods nods nods) There's a great deal to be said to choosing the life of a computer scientist / electrical engineer. My friends who chose those paths make as much as most generalist physicians. The work hours are far less, the years of training far less, the demands less and they don't wake up with nightmares. They have time for hobbies and travel and everything that you don't and I don't; they actually have weekends, and their profession is not going to be as constrained by politics and economics as ours will be. It's the difference between my friends celebrating at Pennsic and ComicCon and me admitting thirteen patients on call.

There's a great deal to be said about choosing a career, rather than a calling.
