I had a curious e-mail in my mailbox today, O Best Beloved. It was from MSAS Notification and it was titled Student Schedule for (Me). And I couldn't figure out what it was, so I opened it.
It was my core clerkship assignments. My luck is holding. Now firmly established are the following rotations:
JUNE: Radiology (Indy)
JULY: Vacation month; take Boards and go to French Lick for the IAFP conference.
AUGUST: Medicine Sub-Internship (Muncie)
SEPTEMBER: Emergency Medicine (Indy)
I get to go to Muncie for my Sub-I month! Muncie, O Best Beloved, is only 45 minutes from Fort Wayne, probably commute-able. They'll provide me with housing and food while I'm there, though. And I'll be done with Indy in September. Have e-mailed my advisor with the rest of the proposed schedule, which now stands as follows:
OCTOBER: Family Medicine in Fort Wayne
NOVEMBER: PBL (at the Northwest Center [e-mail only] or at the IU Center [meets 2x/week]) or Computers in Writing and Research (in Indy but almost all correspondance) - anything low-commitment to allow for interviewing.
DECEMBER: Vacation month; go interview a couple of places
JANUARY: Nicaragua with Manchester - Terrie is saving me a spot. Three weeks of playing doctor, drinking rum, and singing with the guitar. This is the trip that taught me to sing "Country Roads."
FEBRUARY: OB-GYN in Fort Wayne
MARCH: Paediatrics in Fort Wayne ; Match Day
APRIL: France if I can swing it
MAY: Vacation month; Commencement
I've got a letter to be mailed to France asking for information (thanks to my Chelly and to Lisa for helping me with it), and my fingers crossed. It could be a good year...a very good year. Now I just need to register for the Boards, get everything filled out (where is that preference form for EM? I don't want to wind up at the really busy hospitals) and get ready.
If I get my first preferences for Neuro and Psych, I'll have Pedi-Neuro at the children's hospital and Crisis Intervention (quasi-outpatient) for psych. What was I thinking when I did my preferencing? Oh yeah...I had no clue.
Elective scheduling is due by the end of the month. Time to start gearing up for next year.
Other than that, today itself was pretty unremarkable. Dr. AO the cardiologist is a very quick and efficient man who treated me like a second-year shadowing student rather than a third-year. But his patients were all addressed on time, and when I followed him to the hospital, where he was consulting until 21:00, he sent me home at 17:00 because there was nothing to do. I went to choir and sang.
I had planned to get up early tomorrow and go to Curves. I may still, as that would put me back on 6 hours of sleep instead of the (I believe excessive, and causing me to be more tired) 9 I have been getting. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Besides, of course, Lisa.
Is it almost Thursday already? Where has the time gone?
(Oh, and welcome to reynardo and deor, and a very humble word of appreciation in the direction of turnberryknkn for saying such wonderful things about me.)
