On again, off again...

Angel is cleaning the carpet to make it stop smelling like cat.

I got home around 1900, after a full day of rounding on three patients (new attending, Dr. R, is super-smart and interrupted presentations to look at chest X-rays and discuss the intricacies of pulmonary emboli versus perioperative myocardial infarctions), including a very sweet and pleasant woman from$major_city who has a small bowel obstruction and our local general surgeon strongly advised sending back to her hot-shot university surgeons, because he didn't want to risk operating on her.
My job today was twofold: make her ready to get out of here and forget about discharging the diabetic with the foot ulcer. I did both, but it involved a great deal of paging back and forth, talking to social work, and coming back to the hospital after clinic to finish the job. She thanked me profusely; we said sappy goodbyes, and I will have one less person to round on in the morning.

I am drained; the first bits of Medicine are like that. Tomorrow is paperwork day and a chance to get things caught up, including, I hope, my mind.
Until then.
