White Coat

Greensleeves was all my joy...

The concert was phenomenal. The band was great, both in harmony and in their humor. It was a feast for the ADD, totally random. And I needed a break so bad. Combine that with dinner at Sakura, and all was well in the world. Even sleeping on the air mattress couldn't hurt my mood.
Wednesday, O Best Beloved, was strange. I had orientation in the morning and then walked over to the VA for my rotation in the rest of the morning. Met J, who's a first-year resident in anaesthesia. I came in in the middle of her first case, and stayed until she started the second. Left around noon. she was going to let me intubate and start IV's, but I was preempted by the CICU and did nothing.
Released from duty, I began the long trek from the hospital to the parking lot on the other side of University. Said trek is, by my estimation, about a mile. It takes me 25 minutes to walk it. I got all the way to my car before I realised that I had totally forgotten where I'd left my keys. They were, much to my chagrin, in the pocket of my white coat, all the way back at the hospital. So I turned around and went back. What else could I do? I couldn't very well drive there.
I didn't get out of the parking lot until nearly two. Went home, slept for an hour, turned around and came back. I was a bad girl and paid almost no attention during the opthalmology lecture. Didn't get out until 5:30, so any plan of maybe going out to see Angel was shot. He did, however, get out to Best Buy to see about replacing Shain. And that was a whole series of hoops. See, Shain has a 16.1-inch screen. Shain's normal resolution is 1600×1200 pixels. I paid a lot of money when I bought Shain to get that screen resolution and size, and I don't intend to give it up. Thus, the only machine in stock that was an acceptable trade was a new top-of-the line Sony. One Salesperson tried to get Angel to take an HP in trade. No go. Sony, maybe Toshiba are the only brands high-enough quality to take the kind of abuse I dish out on a regular basis. And Sony's the only one that makes a 16'' normal screen. A 15'' screen that does 1024x768 is not a sufficient trade. The techs all agreed. At 10:30 at night when he's trying to close, a manager is a little harder to convince. Fortunately, when we went back yesterday afternoon, it went more smoothly. And in the end, we wound up getting even exchange on the new GRT. So I once again have a laptop whose specs are nothing to sneeze at. Tinúviel, as she is tentatively named (as no-one can tell me the Elvish for ''peace''), has a slightly lower screen resolution than Shain did, going only to 1400×1024 or some such, but she has a lot of extra stuff. I'll post the full spec sheet later, when I have Taika all hooked up and syncing.
I have not gotten to play with my precious yet. We got her and promptly went to the ROTK showing. Following that (yes, I'll do my fangirl raving later) I drove back to Indy and slept 4 hours, getting up to go to a 0630 workshop on casting. I felt miserably inadequate on my anatomy (I need to review the extremities and their vasculature in some depth) but was complimented on my splinting skills. I am the sprinting queen!
Took a brief pause on my way to the workshop to take a look at the OB/GYN exam results. Started at the bottom of the list (ordered high to low score) and worked my way up to fourth from the top before I found my number.
High pass, O Best Beloved.

3% shy of an honours pass. And I was so worried.
You dont know how strange it feels to be elated over a 77%, but that's the way medical school goes. You get excited over doing well, no matter what the objective measure is. And a high pass in OB is a great achievement!
Now I'm sitting in the OR, doing penance for being excused at 0900 yesterday by getting to start IV's and possibly intubate a real patient. There are worse things to do for penance, O yes, Best Beloved. If only I weren't being kept from my Tinúviel...
